Flagstaff and the San Francisco Peaks

Flagstaff, Arizona is one of the great outdoor communities in America.  It is the gateway to the Grand Canyon and is know for fabulous mountain biking.

The city lies at 8,000 feet in the world's largest Ponderosa Pine forest.  The San Francisco Peaks tower over the city.  At 12,600 feet, Mt. Humphry stands as one of the four sacred mountains of the Navajo people.  My grandchildren, Osten and Shandiin Bluelake, are members of the Navajo Nation so the mountain has great significance to the family.

Wildflowers are out at 7,000 to 8,000 feet at this time of the year.  We took some pictures on a family hike in the foothills.
